Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri Announces ‘Operation Sindoor’, A Hard-Hitting Film on India’s Military Response

Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has officially announced his next ambitious project, Operation Sindoor, a film rooted in real events that promises to bring a powerful and fact-driven narrative to the big screen. Joining hands with producer Bhushan Kumar and his banner T-Series, the project is already generating strong buzz for its bold subject and national relevance.

 

Taking to social media, Agnihotri revealed that Operation Sindoor is based on a story that “redefined security in the subcontinent” and exposed what he described as Pakistan’s nuclear bluff. The film draws its narrative from the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan by K. J. S. Dhillon, popularly known as ‘Tiny’ Dhillon. According to the filmmaker, the story is not crafted for sensationalism but aims to present facts with clarity, backed by cinematic storytelling.

 

The film is set in the aftermath of the April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where terrorists targeted tourists at the Baisaran meadow. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, leaving several others injured. The attack was among the deadliest in the region since the Pulwama attack, which resulted in the loss of 40 CRPF Jawans, making it a deeply sensitive and impactful subject for cinematic adaptation.

 

Operation Sindoor will be jointly produced by Agnihotri’s I Am Buddha Productions and T-Series, with the makers emphasizing extensive ground-level research. The team has reportedly collaborated with multiple wings of the Indian Armed Forces to ensure authenticity and accuracy in storytelling. This commitment to realism aligns with Agnihotri’s filmmaking style, which often blends real-life events with dramatic narrative structures.

 

Known for his politically charged and research-driven films, Agnihotri has previously directed projects like The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, both of which sparked widespread discussion and debate. His recent film The Bengal Files (earlier titled The Delhi Files) explored historical events such as Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots, further establishing his reputation as a filmmaker unafraid to tackle complex and controversial subjects.

 

With Operation Sindoor, Agnihotri once again steps into a space that intersects politics, history, and national security. As audiences await more details, the film is already being positioned as a gripping, reality-based narrative that aims to confront difficult truths through the lens of cinema. If executed as promised, it could become one of the most talked-about releases in the coming years.
