Talking about his role, Karan shared insights into the layered personality of Guddu. He said, “Guddu is a very sharp boy who is not only difficult but impossible to understand. He is fun, very clever and has fooled many big names in Mumbai for many years and he can do anything to fulfill his dream. So this Guddu is a very sharp knife.” His statement hints at the cunning nature of the character and the dangerous world he navigates within the story.
The actor also spoke about how the role stood out from the kind of characters he usually portrays. “Look, whenever a script like this comes, as an actor, I feel thrilled that I'll get to do something different. Because in general, I'm a bit of a chocolate boy, so I get roles that are lovey-dovey. This time, I got such an interesting role for the first time, where I was like, apart from lovey-dovey, I'm doing something different. It was quite challenging for me because I had to work on my look, on my styling, not on the dialogue. Because he's an educated guy, so there's no worry about the director saying that he speaks in a rough manner. He speaks straight, so he's that kind of guy, but apart from that, I had to work a lot on his behavior and his body language.”
Karan further explained that preparing for Guddu required him to adopt a completely different mindset as an actor. “As an artist, I actually feel that I had to work with a slightly different mindset here because when I play lovey-dovey characters, I perform as Karan and there is no tension. But Guddu was a slightly different character, so I had to read his mindset, that he would think like this, he would walk like this, he would have such body language, he would be carefree. Otherwise, in my real life I am very composed, I keep it simple and nothing really affects me, but Guddu is affected by everything. He watches everything, notices everything, what’s happening here and there. So his body language changes, and I had to work a little harder on it.”
The series also marks the digital debut of Sana Makbul, who plays the lead role of Divya Sharma. The story follows a young woman who runs away to Mumbai chasing fame but soon finds herself pulled into the city’s dangerous underworld, eventually transforming into a powerful crime figure.
Begum of Crime premiered on March 3, 2026 as a Hungama OTT original and is also available on Watcho. With its gripping narrative of ambition, betrayal, and survival, the series offers a dark look at the cost of power in the underworld of Mumbai.
