Maureen Nichols: Over Three Decades of Trusted Real Estate Service in Mount Airy

Maureen Nichols leads Team Bonnie & Maureen at RE/MAX Realty Plus and has been serving buyers and sellers across the 4 county Mount Airy, Maryland area since 1989. In 2019, she was named the Frederick County Association's REALTOR® of the Year. Her approach to the business is simple: show up, work hard and with integrity, pay attention to the details, and see every transaction through to a successful result.

A Career Built on Experience

Maureen was licensed in 1989 and has now spent more than 35 years working in real estate. Over that time, she has earned and maintained several professional designations, including Senior Real Estate Specialist, Accredited Buyer Representative, Seller Representative Specialist, and an e-PRO certification. Throughout her career, she has received numerous volume awards, and multiple association recognitions including a Lifetime Achievement Award, RPAC Hall of Fame and in 2024, the Charles S. V. Sanner Award. This award is given to those who exemplify Mr. Sanner’s high ethical and professional standards in their own business dealings and has sought to enhance the public image of the REALTOR® through their participation in association activities.

Deep Roots in the Industry

What sets Maureen apart is her involvement in the broader real estate community. She is a longtime supporter of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee and has served the National Association of REALTORS®, Maryland REALTORS®, and local associations in various roles. She spent seven years on the Frederick County Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors, serving as a Director for three years before moving into the roles of Secretary, President Elect, President in 2019, and Immediate Past President in 2020. She has also served on the Grievance Committee and Professional Standards at both local and state levels.

This experience has given her access to industry leaders and insight into what happens behind the scenes. "Having news before it is news, watching over the property rights of land and home owners, has helped me educate and guide my clients," she explained.

Solving Problems, One Transaction at a Time

Maureen's ideal client is someone she has worked with before, her family and friends or someone referred to her by prior clients, family, friends or industry professionals. Whether a person is buying or selling, she walks them through every step of the process. That includes handling appraisal issues, title concerns, well and septic complications, home inspection findings, environmental matters and property disclosures.

"I have learned every problem can be solved, but it takes a level head and an unbiased assessment to help guide buyers and sellers through it," she said. Her goal in every transaction is a settlement where all parties walk away satisfied, and the relationships created are solid. She sees that as the only real measure of success.

A Team in Transition

Maureen started 2026 with a team of two. Her teammate, Kelly Malagari, an Accredited Staging Professional and a marketing genius, has been with her since 2005. Her original partner, Bonnie Winkler, passed away in October of 2024, marking a deeply personal and professional transition. Despite the loss, Maureen has continued her work with the same steadiness and commitment that have defined her career.

When asked what was currently newsworthy about her business, she was honest. "There is nothing really newsworthy about me or the brokerage I work with," she said. After 37 years in the industry, she admitted she has been thinking about slowing down a little bit, though she added with a slight laugh that her clients won’t let her!

Maureen does not rely on flash or marketing language to describe what she does. Her strength lies in consistency, attention to detail, and years of showing up for the people she works with. She has seen the industry change, navigated countless transactions, and built relationships that span decades.
