“When I was told that Emraan Hashmi will be working with me on Haq, I really could not picture anyone better than Emraan. I have always been a fan of his acting, I have always been a fan of how Emraan carried himself. Through and through his career in an industry where it is all about more PR and rest of the stuff can wait, but to be loved by everyone across all generations, people are always waiting for his next movie, his performance, his music and everything, and that’s a true-blue star in my opinion,” Yami said.
She continued, highlighting his commitment to his craft on set, saying, “When you watch Haq, you won’t see Emraan Hashmi anywhere, what he has given to Abass as an actor, is incredible. As actors, we feed off each other’s energy. It’s not that we had too many workshops or multiple readings or anything, but he was so on point.”
Yami also praised Emraan’s professionalism and supportive nature, explaining, “And I am always a fan of someone who is not just a brilliant actor but a really good professional artist. Emraan is always on time, always respectful of everybody, he is comfortable and secure — what else do you need. It is not about he can crack a joke, it’s not for me, for me, that’s not the definition. He is so sincere, and if Emraan is suggesting something for my character I would take it very seriously. I would be like, he is right, I didn’t think from that perspective, so thank him for giving me a memorable experience.”
Yami’s admiration for Emraan underscores why the actor continues to be celebrated across generations. His performance in Haq, where he brings depth and nuance to the character of Abass, is a testament to his enduring talent and dedication to meaningful cinema.
Haq is a Hindi-language drama and courtroom film, directed by Suparn Varma and written by Reshu Nath, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar, alongside Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady.
The film is inspired by the landmark 1985 Supreme Court case Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum, which involved a maintenance dispute between a divorced couple and sparked widespread debate on religious laws and women’s rights in India. Combining courtroom intensity with social commentary, Haq explores themes of justice, gender equality, and the intersection of personal faith and constitutional rights.
Scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.
