"Ghar Ki Dehleez Se Supreme Court Tak": Emraan Hashmi Unveils First Look of Legal Drama HAQ

Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has set the internet abuzz with the first look poster of his upcoming film HAQ (2025), a hard-hitting legal drama inspired by one of India’s most controversial and precedent-setting court cases — the Shah Bano vs. Ahmed Khan verdict. Sharing the poster on social media, Hashmi wrote: "Ghar ki dehleez se Supreme Court tak... #HAQ aur uss Haq ki ladaai! "

The tagline alone suggests a film steeped in social commentary, addressing battles not just within courtrooms, but also within homes and communities. Directed by Suparn Varma, and produced by Junglee Pictures, Insomnia Media, and Baweja Studios, HAQ is expected to navigate the thin line between personal rights and public opinion, while revisiting the aftershocks of the real-life 1985 Shah Bano case — a verdict that rocked the nation and forced conversations around gender, religion, and constitutional rights.

Joining Hashmi in this intense courtroom drama is Yami Gautam, whose recent performances have proven her knack for strong, socially driven roles. The supporting cast includes Danish Husain, Sheeba Chaddha, and Vartika Singh, with music composed by Sandeep Chowta and Vishal Mishra. The script, packed with legal rhetoric and emotional conflict, is co-written by Juhi Parekh Mehta and Mamta Kamtekar, aiming to spotlight the deep-rooted gender inequalities that still persist in parts of Indian society.

What sets HAQ apart is its willingness to dive into one of India's most legally and politically sensitive topics. While dramatized for the screen, the narrative is expected to maintain its historical grounding — exploring the social, religious, and judicial complexities that shaped the Shah Bano judgment and its fallout. For a mainstream Hindi film to tackle this subject so directly is a bold move — and with a cast like this, expectations are already high.

As we await its release, HAQ promises to be more than just a film. It looks ready to spark dialogue, challenge outdated ideologies, and remind audiences that sometimes, the fight for one's haq (right) begins where the law and life collide.
