Emily Browning Gets Stuck in a Tequila Time Loop in Aussie Rom-Com One More Shot

Rom-coms just got a little drunker — and a lot more interesting. Streaming platform Stan has debuted the official trailer for One More Shot, a Y2K-era romantic comedy with a sci-fi twist. Directed by Nicholas Clifford, the film stars Emily Browning as Minnie, a love-struck anaesthetist who gets trapped in a time loop at a chaotic New Year’s Eve party in 1999… thanks to a bottle of time-traveling tequila.

Premiering last month at the 2025 Melbourne Film Festival, the film follows Minnie as she arrives at a glitzy beach house party only to find her ex, Joe, there with a new girlfriend. One regretful shot of tequila later — boom — she’s back at the beginning of the night. Armed with nothing but a mysteriously magical bottle and increasingly poor decision-making skills, Minnie gets one more shot (literally) to change the night… over and over again.

But what starts as a fun re-do quickly unravels into emotional chaos. The film cleverly explores themes of self-awareness, heartbreak, and how even time loops can’t save you from your own messy choices. Set to a soundtrack of late-90s bangers (yes, Coco Jamboo included) and soaked in Y2K nostalgia, One More Shot walks the line between hilarity and emotional depth, as Minnie spirals toward an important realization: it’s not just about winning back Joe — it’s about facing herself.

Joining Browning in the cast are Aisha Dee, Sean Keenan, Hamish Michael, Ashley Zukerman, and Pallavi Sharda, rounding out a diverse and energetic ensemble. The script is penned by Alice Foulcher and Gregory Erdstein, from a story by Heather Wilson, and produced by Virginia Whitwell, Nick Batzias, Elise Trenorden, and Jim Wright — a powerhouse of Australian filmmaking talent.
