"God Has Shown a Lot of Miracles": Saanand Verma on His Unstoppable Journey from TV to Film

Saanand Verma, the man who made “I like it!” a cult catchphrase as Saxena Ji in Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain!, is not just a comic relief on television—he’s a versatile actor who’s been quietly conquering both the big and small screens.

In a recent statement, Verma said, “My colleagues from Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai, they all have just done that one show, except one or two, I have done 30 films… and it is my understanding that God has shown a lot of miracles.” It’s a reflection not just of his gratitude but also of the extraordinary path he’s carved in an industry that rarely hands out second chances.

While most of his TV peers are known solely for their sitcom characters, Verma’s filmography is an eclectic mix. He’s appeared in powerful films like Mardaani, Raid, Mission Raniganj, and Vijay 69. “I have done films with noted directors, such as Vishal Bhardwaj, Nitesh Tiwari, Anurag Kashyap, and more, I have done mega series. Because of God, I haven’t seen a dip in my career, just rise”.

Working with directors like Vishal Bhardwaj, Nitesh Tiwari, and Anurag Kashyap isn’t something most sitcom actors get to put on their résumé—but Verma has done it, and with style. Each role, no matter how big or small, is approached with a mix of method and madness that makes him impossible to ignore.

His television career, too, has been anything but conventional. Before Bhabi Ji, he was seen in cult TV shows like Lapataganj, CID, F.I.R., and even Netflix’s Sacred Games. Comedy, drama, satire—there’s little Verma hasn’t tried. And he brings a certain fearlessness to each performance, unafraid to look ridiculous, emotional, or even unhinged, if the role calls for it. He’s the kind of actor who doesn’t wait for permission to experiment.

Verma’s journey is a masterclass in reinvention. From struggling days to now starring across genres and platforms, his rise is a reminder that talent, when backed by persistence and faith, can indeed make room in any crowded room. As he put it, perhaps it really is a series of miracles—but make no mistake, this is also a story built on grit, guts, and a whole lot of range.
