Kankana Chakraborty Brings Rerouting to Mumbai and Says, “I Just Hope It Doesn’t Get Rerouted!”

If you’ve ever screamed at your GPS for rerouting you down a shady alley or through someone’s backyard (true story), then Kankana Chakraborty’s new film Rerouting might just speak directly to your soul. The filmmaker and actress brought her heart, her nerves, and a lot of philosophical sass to Mumbai for the film’s special screening — and it was as real and refreshing as it gets.

“My heart is racing right now,” Kankana confessed, grinning from ear to ear. “This is the first time the screening is happening in Mumbai. We had four in Kolkata, but here? I’m scared and grateful. Mumbai has given us space, love, and most importantly — open doors!” And in true filmmaker fashion, she added with a laugh, “I just hope Rerouting finds its way... and doesn’t get rerouted at all.”

Now, if you’re wondering what exactly Rerouting is about — don’t expect a happy road trip movie with musical numbers (though we wouldn’t be mad about that). Kankana describes it with a twist of metaphor and modern-day wisdom: “Sometimes when you’re traveling, the GPS says ‘rerouting’ if you take the wrong turn. It’s a little nudge to stop and course-correct. But in life, we don’t always get that alert, do we? We miss the red flags, we ignore the signs, and then boom — regret!”

With a sparkle in her eye, she added, “For the younger crowd, maybe it's time to stop blindly following the GPS. And for the older generation... maybe it’s time to reboot and finally learn how to follow the GPS.” Mic. Drop.

Rerouting, directed by Kankana and co-written with Prarthana Joshi and Mrunal Mestri, stars the brilliant Pradeep Bhattacharya, Barun Chanda, and Kankana herself. Shot by cinematographer Mridul Sen and edited by Amitava Dasgupta, the film unfolds over one intense night, where a group of individuals — each stuck in their own emotional traffic jams — find unexpected detours through empathy, confrontation, and redemption.

So next time your GPS says “rerouting,” maybe take a moment. Maybe it’s not just a wrong turn — maybe it’s the universe trying to direct you to a film screening in Mumbai... or, you know, toward a little self-awareness. Either way, Rerouting is worth following.
