Set in the picturesque Godavari district, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is a family entertainer with a mix of comedy, emotions, and drama. The film follows Y.D. Raju (Venkatesh), is a retired officer who is called back for an assignment involving a high-profile kidnapping case. His interactions with his family, especially his witty and charming son Bulli Raju, form the crux of the narrative. Meenakshi (Meenakshi Chaudhary), an IPS officer and Raju's ex-girlfriend, adds tension and intrigue to the plot. Raju’s wife, Bhagyalakshmi (Aishwarya Rajesh), complicates matters with her suspicions and insistence on joining the mission. As the trio navigates the case and their personal dynamics, the story is laced with humor and sprinkled with heartwarming moments.
Bheems Ceciroleo’s music is a standout, with “Godari Gattu” and “Meenu” leaving a lasting impression. The background score elevates the comedic and emotional beats effectively. Sai Sriram’s cinematography captures the rural backdrop beautifully, adding visual appeal. However, the production values feel slightly subpar in a few sequences.
Analysis
The movie starts on a moderate note with predictable writing in the first 20 minutes. However, the village setup and the introduction of Bulli Raju breathe life into the narrative. Venkatesh’s impeccable comic timing and a couple of light-hearted moments keep the audience entertained. The songs “Godari Gattu” and “Meenu” are notable highlights of the first half, with the former being visually rich and musically catchy. While the comedy occasionally feels over-the-top, it manages to entertain the target family audience. The chemistry between Venkatesh and Aishwarya Rajesh in the family portions works well. Overall, the first half is a decent watch, catering primarily to those who enjoy Ravipudi's signature style of humor.
The second half takes a farcical turn, amplifying the comedy and emotional drama. While the humor is consistent, it occasionally ventures into exaggerated territory, which may not appeal to everyone. The crime subplot is sidelined, leaving the focus entirely on family dynamics and comedic situations.
The highlight remains Venkatesh’s star power and the camaraderie between his character and Bulli Raju. Although the storyline lacks depth and originality, the engaging performances and festive spirit make up for it.
Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is a festive family entertainer that relies heavily on humor and star performances. Despite its predictable plot and exaggerated comedy, the film entertains its target audience with fun moments and heartwarming scenes. If you enjoy Anil Ravipudi’s style of filmmaking and are looking for light-hearted entertainment, this film is worth a watch.
