Hema Malini was interacting with Newshelpline during the release of debut bhajan Jhoola Jhoole Radha Rani at ISKON temple in Juhu.
Talking about being critical of her singing, Hema Malini said, “Sometimes I felt that I did really good, because there is a lot of technical help available these days and you can do a lot with it, the song gets polished. But I would like to improve my singing, I am practicing, I do sing Sanskrit Shloka’s, I desire to sing something else as well, apart from local folk songs, more of the Sanskrit side of it.”
Jhoola Jhoole Radha Rani, is composed by Vivek Prakash and penned by Kavi Narayan Agarwal 'Das Narayan'.
Praising her mentor Kavi Narayan and talking about the full album, Hema said, “Kavi Narayan Agarwal has always been encouraging me, now he pushed me into signing as well, first time he approached me, he said you need to sing 8 bhajans, and I was shocked. I cannot even sing one, leave alone eight, but with some encouragement and talented music composers, I was able to sing eight bhajans.”
“I am a dancer, and has managed to make a good name for myself in film industry, and for a decade or so, I am looking after Mathura as a member of parliament, and I am happy doing what I do. And in-between all of this, Narayan Ji, would come each year with song for me to sing, and I kept telling him that I am not a singer, but he insisted, and enjoyed singing it, the music composer Vivek helped me a lot during the sessions. And after composing the song, they would make me listen to it, and it didn’t feel bad at all, it felt good. I was nervous that it will turn out bad, but it didn’t. I am very happy that I am able to do some Seva (service), in singing also, I hope to continue to do that” added Hema.
