'Art in Prison' programme launched at Chennai central prison

Chennai, June 26 (SocialNews.XYZ) In yet another novel initiative taken by the Tamil Nadu Prison Department, a scheme to de-stress the inmates and make them more conducive to reformation, rehabilitation and re-integration, 'Art in Prison’ was launched at the Central Prison-I, here on Monday.

The scheme was launched by the Minister for Law, Courts and Prisons, S. Regupathy.

 

The scheme will be implemented as a pilot project at the Puzhal prison and will be replicated in all the other central prisons soon, said Amaresh Pujari, Director General, Prisons and Correctional Services.

Art in Prison will be implemented with the help of National Law University, New Delhi, in coordination with Sumanasa Foundation, which offers training in various art forms like music, dance, drama and others.

Under this scheme, the prison inmates will be skilled in music, dance, drama, painting etc. through a six-month specialised course.
