Eritrea: Call for Integrated Effort to Control Prevalence of Tree Locust

The Ministry of Agriculture called on all concerned bodies to actively conduct surveillance with a view to control the prevalence of tree locust that is steadily increasing.

Indicating that tree locust is being spotted every year especially in the Gash Barka Region, the Ministry said that it is being detected in the Anseba, Northern Red Sea and Southern regions.

Mr. Tedros Seyum, head of migrating pests at the Ministry of Agriculture, said that tree locust could inflict heavy damage not only on trees but also on vegetables and other crops, called for strong surveillance on the part of the agricultural experts, administrations as well as members of the Defense Forces.
