President Wavel Ramkalawan has expressed appreciation for the good spirit that reigned in Victoria, Grand Anse, Praslin and La Digue among the football enthusiasts gathered around the three large screens where the public could enjoy the matches of the 2022 World Cup played in Qatar.

' I appreciate the spirit of camaraderie that reigned as supporters of various teams gathered to watch these matches. This was an expression of the true Seychellois spirit that should continue to unite us as a people. I wish to congratulate the winning team Argentina and all its local supporters. The final match kept all of us in suspense until the final penalty kick. The French put up a good game and I also want to congratulate them and their supporters. I take this opportunity to convey our sincere appreciation and gratitude for the sponsorship of the large screen to the UAE Embassy and the Alpha Dhabi Holding Company that provided the facilities for the public in Seychelles to enjoy the World Cup matches together."

The President has also congratulated the Seychelles Football Federation for winning the bid to hold the 2025 World FIFA Beach Football competition.

"We now need to put in every effort to make it a real success. Small Seychelles must shine once again."
