SPOT, the all-women squad in UP ATS

Lucknow, July 20 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) will now have an all women force.

The UP ATS has raised its first-of-its-kind all-women squad, called the Special Police Operation Team (SPOT).

The specialised unit has been trained to tackle anti-hijacking and counter-insurgency operations like terror attacks.

SPOT, which has 36 members, is a batch of commandos trained by expert trainers of BSF, CISF, ITBP and other paramilitary forces.

Additional director general of police (ADGP), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, said that police are following the directions of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath to raise an elite woman commando force.

"The idea to raise an all-woman wing was based on increasing representation of women in the workplace and their deployment at sensitive locations. Hence, carrying out rescue operations, and tackling women troublemakers become easier," he said.

The ADG also said that the SPOT women commandos are being trained to handle all kinds of equipment and weapons.

"They have completed their Krav Maga training, an Israeli unarmed combat technique, as well as training by Korean coaches and martial arts. They are undergoing training with NSG, BSF, and ITBP," said the ADG.

The focus is also on equipping our counter-terror forces with new electronic gadgets, the latest weaponry and analytic tools for foreign training.

Recently, Yogi Adityanath had said that the ATS should also train with the best in the world and that "we are making proposals for regular training modules with US Corps, Scotland Yard and Israeli counter-terror units".

For the first-time, the process to raise three all-woman battalions had also begun in the state.

ADG Kumar also said that a dog-squad, a bomb disposal squad and a wireless trapping unit will also be a part of the women commando unit.
