Drugs valued at Rs 10cr seized in Assam

Guwahati, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Assam police have seized smuggled drugs valued at over Rs 10 crore, from a mini-truck, police said on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Kamrup district Superintendent of Police Hitesh Chandra Roy seized the drugs including one kg heroin, five kg opium, 2,304 highly addictive SPS tablets on Saturday night.

The police team had intercepted the vehicle, which was carrying the drugs, near Pub Borka Point while the driver and assistant of the vehicle, however, managed to flee.

The police immediately launched a manhunt to nab the duo.

Roy told the media that the contraband was hidden in the music system and spare tyre of the vehicle.

Police suspect that the drugs were smuggled from Myanmar, which shares a 1,643 km of unfenced border with four northeastern states --Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland.
