Low pressure area over Bay of Bengal to bring rain to Odisha: IMD

Bhubaneswar, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Dussehra celebration this year may be wet in some parts of Odisha with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting rainfall.

Under the influence of Wednesday's cyclonic circulation over east central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, a low pressure area has formed over the same location, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said in a bulletin this afternoon.

The system is likely to move west-north-westwards and reach south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next 24 hours.

IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, said:, "Light to heavy rainfall would occur in several parts of the state till October 17. Coastal Odisha is likely to get rains from today (Thursday) itself while it will gradually expand to the interior pockets of the state."

He also said that the low pressure area will not convert into a cyclone, as earlier predicted by some private weather forecasting agencies and experts, and cross the Odisha and Andhra coast as it is.

The Met Centre bulletin said heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in some places of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri districts on Saturday and Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak districts would experience heavy downpour the next day.

The weather office has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from October 16-October 18.
