Actor Arjun Rampal and his partner Gabriella Demetriades has been summoned by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), which searched their home in Mumbai on Monday in its investigations into drugs allegations linked to the film industry. Arjun Rampal and Gabriella Demetriades have been asked to appear for questioning on Wednesday.
The NCB’s team reportedly found a medicinal substance from their residence, which according to them is a controlled substance covered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The search began at Capri Heights in Bandra, where Rampal lives, at around 7 am and lasted till 3 pm. The team also seized electronic equipment for analysis. Rampal was present at the residence when the search was conducted.
The NCB had previously taken Arjun's partner Gabriella Demetriades's brother Agisilaos in custody over connections with peddlers arrested in an ongoing drug-probe linked to Sushant Singh Rajput's death.
Agisilaos Demetriades was granted bail by a special court on Friday. However, the agency took Agisilaos into custody again in relation to another drug case. Gabriella's brother Agisilaos Demetriades is of South African nationality.
On Sunday, Bollywood producer Firoz Nadiadwala's wife was arrested by the anti-drugs agency after some 10 grams of marijuana was allegedly found at their Mumbai home in raids.
The bureau's probe started earlier this year when, during investigations into actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death in June, WhatsApp chats involving drugs were found on the phone of his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, also an actor.
Subsequently, Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, two of Sushant Singh Rajput's employees and a few others were arrested for allegedly organizing drugs for the 34-year-old actor who was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14.
As the anti-drugs agency widened its probe, Bollywood A-listers like Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh were questioned. Rhea Chakraborty, 28, was released on bail last month.
The NCB, which usually goes after drug cartels and suppliers have earlier stated that actors' questioning was a part of its attempt to unravel the network of supply to celebrities.
