Panaji, Sep 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) The alleged killers of a jeweller in South Goa's Margao town had sourced a country-made gun from Bihar, Director General of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena said on Thursday.
Meena visited Margao town, which has been reeling under the shocking daylight murder of 41-year-old jeweller Swapnil Walke on September 2. Meena met groups of concerned jewellers, businessmen and district administration officials.
"The gun used in the incident was bought by the accused from Bihar," Meena told reporters.
Walke died fighting off his assailants, who were trying to rob his jewellery store on September 2. While the gun was used to intimidate the deceased, Walke died from stab wounds received during the scuffle, some of which was recorded on a mobile phone by a bystander.
Three persons involved in the attempted robbery and murder have been arrested by the Crime Branch, after the case was transferred to the specialised agency last week.
Meena said he had visited Margao in order to reassure people about their safety and inform them about the steps being taken by the police to control crime "There is a fear psychosis in Margao town. I am here to reassure them. Such incidents reflect on police performance," Meena said.
He also said that the state administration along with the police, were in the process of setting up CCTV cameras in sensitive areas in a bid to deter future crimes.
