​Thappad Doesn’t Try To Be Clever, It Stays Rooted Says Anurag Kashyap

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap praises the forthcoming drama Thappad, says the film doesn’t try and act clever; it stays rooted and present a very simple and rational argument.

The makers of Thappad organized a special screening of the film in Mumbai, which was followed by a media interaction. The event was graced by Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Dia Mirza, Pavail Gulati, Anurag Kashyap and more.

Talking about the film and praising the narrative of the film, Anurag Kashyap said, “There are so many traps this film could have fallen into, but this film doesn’t have any cleverness. The magic of this film is, for me, this film doesn’t fall into any traps, and it doesn’t become clever, at any given time. See it is very easy, film could have gone into the courtroom, it film could have gone into investigation, but it didn’t go anywhere and it stayed rooted and Indian, it didn’t become clever”

“The film got built around one basic very simple rational argument that whole lot of filmmakers kind of forget, we become very clever, we know how to make a very interesting scene, put out a very interesting argument and attract people, this film doesn’t go any of those place” added Anurag.

Anubhav Sinha directorial stars Taapsee Pannu as a woman who files for divorce when her husband slaps her in a party. The movie is about women empowerment and addressing the issue of domestic violence.

The film also features Pavail Gulati, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Dia Mirza, Ram Kapoor, Kumud Mishra, Sushil Dahiya, Nidhi Uttam, Manav Kaul, Gracy Goswami and Sandeep Yadav. It will be theatrically released on 28 February 2020.
