Kolkata, Feb 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) Youth Olympic champion Jeremy Lalrinnunga (17) bettered his clean and jerk record to win the men's 67kg title in the 72nd men's and 35th women's Senior National Weightlifting Championships here on Monday.
The teenage Mizoram lifter, who became the first Indian to win gold at the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina in 2018, lifted 132 kg after two failed efforts but saved his best for the last in clean and jerk to lift 167 kg. His total was 299 kg. His personal best of 306 kg recorded at the International Qatar Cup was not bettered though.
Meanwhile, Shubham Kolekar of Maharashtra scripted two records in a close competition with Gururaja in the men's 61 kg category on the opening day of the meet at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra.
Kolekar bettered his own national record by lifting 119 kg to open up a 4 kg lead after the round of snatch lifts only to better his show in clean and jerk as he lifted 157 kg in his third attempt for a total of 272 kg.
He recorded two national records in the process.
Kolekar increased the weight by 5 kg in the final round and bagged gold while Gururaja's 157 kg try went in vain.
Earlier, Sanket Sargar broke three national records to pocket the men's 55 kg title.
