Director, producer and writer Vidhu Vinod Chopra known for his movies like 'Munnabhai series, '3 idiots’ and 'PK' and has come out with a new film 'Shikara'. The director mentioned that his movie is a tribute to all Kashmiri pandits. He further expressed, that his motive behind making this film was to pass on the message about the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits to the whole world and in India.
The director urging the politician and media to raise the issue in the Parliament said that,
"In1990, the militancy rose its ugly head threatening the Kashmiri Pandit community which led to their exodus to Jammu, Delhi and other parts of the country. I’d like to ask them ‘what did you do for the past 30 years?’ Nobody listened to us all these years. I can’t even narrate what all we faced. The humiliation, bathing under public taps, no daris, no blankets, standing all day for tomatoes, but we never lost hope. Even after this, there was no noise in the Parliament. At least make some noise now.
It was not that easy for me to make this film, because It took me 11 years to write. And I would like to say this is not a movie it's a movement. When I was writing, I made sure to write it very precisely, so that people feel liking watching it in theatres. I request media, that through their social accounts urge people to watch this movie, he added."
Chopra was speaking at a special 30 minute-screening of Shikara, which was attended by Kashmiri Pandit refugees from Jammu’s Jagti migrant camp, along with Abhijat Joshi and Rahul Pandita, the other two writers of the film.
About the movie, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has dedicated his movie 'Shikara' to his mother who passed away in 2007. The movie features Aadil Khan and Sadia. It is slated to release on 7 February.
