In solidarity with JNU students a massive crowd including a mob of Bollywood celebrities gathered at Carter Road to protest against the unprecedented attack on the students and faculty of Delhi.
Among the protestors were also noted celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Gauahar Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Sudhir Misra, Vishal Bhardwaj, Reema Kagti, Zoya Akhtar, Dia Mirza, Rahul Bose, Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal, Reema Kagti and other celebrities as well as common people.
The celebrities shouted the slogans, carried placards and even sang the Indian National Anthem with the entire fan base present at the venue.
Celebrities also took to social media to appeal to people to gather for a silent protest at the Carter Road promenade on the evening of 6 January. Dia Mirza posted on her Instagram story and wrote, “Peaceful Silent Assembly in support of the students of India tonight the 6th of January 2020, from 8 pm to 10 pm, Carter Road promenade in front of Cafe Coffee Day.”
Late on Sunday, violence broke out in JNU when several people with their faces covered with masks entered the campus with sticks and rods and attacked the students and teachers, as well as damaged the property. At least 28 students, including JNU students' union president Aishe Ghosh, were severely injured as the violence went on for nearly two hours.
