Buenos Aires, March 3 (IANS) River Plate climbed to fourth in the Superliga Argentina standings with a 4-2 home victory over Newell's Old Boys.
Lucas Martinez, Matias Suarez and Cristian Ferreira on Saturday scored first-half goals for the hosts while Newell's midfielder Alexis Rodriguez was also on target before halftime, reports Xinhua news agency.
Ignacio Scocco extended River's lead by converting a 76th-minute penalty before Luis Leal pegged a goal back for the visitors in second-half stoppage time.
The result at the Monumental stadium extended River's unbeaten Superliga run to seven matches and ended Newell's sequence of seven games without a loss dating back to November.
