Blast hits voter registration centre in Afghanistan, kills 2

Kabul, June 6 (IANS) At least two people lost their lives and two were injured as a blast hit a voter registration centre in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province on Wednesday.

A landmine planted by militants in the voting registration centre in Khawja Alwan area, went off killing two people including a police constable and injuring two others, the spokesman for the provincial government Mahmoud Akmal said, Xinhua news agency reported.

The official blamed the Taliban for the deadly blast, saying the militants wanted to intimidate the people to stay away from the election process.

The Afghan parliamentary election, according to the election body, is slated for October 20 and since the opening of the voter registration on April 14, some five million eligible voters have registered.
