Military drills begin in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, March 19 (IANS/WAM) The Gulf Shield 1 Joint drills, organised by Saudi Arabia's Defence Ministry, has kicked off in the eastern region in participation with military forces from 23 countries as well as Saudi forces.

The drill that started on Sunday is scheduled for one month and is considered the largest military drill in the region in terms of diversity of expertise and quality of weapons.

The training aims to raise the military readiness of participating countries, modernise joint mechanisms and enhance coordination and cooperation.
