Two militants, civilian killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 24 (IANS) Security forces on Wednesday shot dead two militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district in a gun battle that also left a teenager dead.

Director General of Police S.P. Vaid said the fighting took place at Saigund Shopian and that two militants "have been neutralised and weapons recovered (from them).

"Unfortunately, one boy was also killed in the cross-fire and two ladies sustained injuries," he added. The security forces continued to search for more militants in the area.

The teenager, identified as Shakir Ahmad, 17, was killed and two girls were injured when protesters pelted stones at the security forces to disrupt the operation against the militants. The security personnel then opened fire.
