Ailing German national rescued off Goa coast

Panaji, Nov 11 (IANS) The Indian Coast Guard on Saturday ferried a German senior citizen, who had suffered cardiac arrest, from a cruise vessel off Goa to a waiting ambulance so that he could be taken to hospital in Panaji for medical aid, an official said.

The condition of the German patient Anton Konrad (75) is now stable, said a statement issued by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

An SOS was received by the ICG on Saturday afternoon that a German cruise vessel with 1,855 passengers had an ailing passenger on board.

"The patient was winched by an ICG helicopter from north of Reddi port (along the Goa-Maharashtra border) and brought to an ambulance which was co-ordinated to wait at Miramar beach closer to Manipal hospital (Panaji). The patient was handed over to the medical team," the statement said.

"Patient is now reported to be stable and under treatment by a team of specialists at the hospital."
