BSF, Punjab STF recover pistol, 4.5 kg heroin in Punjab

Chandigarh, Aug 5 (IANS) In a joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Punjab Police's Special Task Force (STF) on Saturday recovered a 9mm pistol along with ammunition and over 4.5 kg of heroin from the frontier district of Ferozepur, a BSF official said.

The recovery was made in the area of Border out Post (BoP) Lakha Singh Wala Tent Post in the Ferozepur sector, ahead of the barbed wire border fence, said BSF official D.S. Rana.

The recovery was made following specific information provided by the Punjab STF and a joint search operation was carried out.

The weapon, ammunition and heroin, which was wrapped in eight packets, were found buried in agricultural fields across the fence.

The heroin is valued at over Rs 22 crore in the international market.

The BSF has recovered nearly 123 kg of heroin in Punjab, along the 553-km-long India-Pakistan international border in the state.
