Man impersonating as CBI officer held in Delhi

New Delhi, July 18 (IANS) A dismissed CISF constable was arrested on charges of impersonating a senior CBI officer and threatening and duping businessmen and policemen in north Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

Police said former Central Industrial Security Force Constable Vikram adopted the alias of Vikram Singh Rathore and introduced himself as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation.

A fake identity card with the Ministry of Home Affairs written on it was seized from him.

He was arrested when he tried to extort money from a constable posted at the Mukherjee Nagar police station. The constable suspected his credentials and complained to his superiors.

"During investigation, his real name was revealed. His service as CISF constable was terminated in 2013 after he was found involved in irregularities. He also remained in judicial custody in Jaipur," a police officer said.

Vikram was staying in north Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area in a paying guest accommodation for the last couple of years.

Posing as a CBI official, he was not only not paying for his stay but also taking Rs 10,000 from the landlord to let his business function.

He had similarly availed of freebies from restaurants, hotels and saloons.
