Cycle thief escapes from police station, re-arrested

New Delhi, July 18 (IANS) When no one was watching him, a cycle thief locked up in a room in a police station here escaped after removing cardboard pieces fixed to a window room cooler. But his luck ran out and he was arrested again on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishi Pal said Rahul was left inside a locked room at the Prashant Vihar police station in Rohini area while a constable assigned to guard him left the premises briefly.

This is when the thief created a gap between the cooler and the wall by removing the cardboard pieces and slipped through the gap.

Rahul, who was arrested on Monday, was caught again on Tuesday after "a massive search", Pal added. The constable has been suspended for dereliction of duty.
