Must be meek to hear God’s voice, says Pope

Vatican City, June 23 (IANS/AKI) It is the "small" people, not the powerful ones who God calls and who are able to hear his voice, Pope Francis said on Friday, urging Catholics to "make yourself little".

"The Lord loves us for our littleness and that is why he choses us. He choses the small people, not the big ones," Francis said in a sermon at the Vatican hotel, where he lives.

"His heart is open, but the great do not recognise His voice because they are not able to hear it because they are full of themselves. To hear the voice of the Lord, you must make yourself little."

Francis recalled how Moses said God had chosen the people of Israel because it was "the smallest of nations".

"You that are the smallest - because of suffering, because of fatigue.

"He chooses the little ones, He is revealed to the little ones, and He calls the little ones," the pontiff stressed.
