Tehran, June 13 (IANS) Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa on Tuesday congratulated World No.28 Iran football team for qualifying in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Goals from forwards Sardar Azmoun and Mehedi Taremi in the 23rd and 88th minutes assured Iran a place in the forthcoming World Cup. They defeated Uzbekistan 2-0 at the Azadi Stadium here on Monday.
The AFC President also wished other teams luck for for further matches in the qualification stage.
"This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran to succeed at the highest international level," Al Khalifa was quoted as saying by Fox sports.
"In the AFC's Vision and Mission our objective was to have success on the global stage, I hope their qualification for the FIFA World Cup will inspire the team to do Asia proud next year in Russia.
"As we approach the closing stages of qualification, I wish all our teams chasing the remaining places the very best of luck," he added.
