Paris, May 31 (IANS) Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko on Wednesday defeated Puerto Rican Monica Puig to go through to the third round of the French Open tennis tournament.

Ostapenko defeated Puig 6-3, 6-2 in a match which lasted around one hour, reports Efe.

The Latvian is set to play against Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko, who scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Russian Ekaterina Makarova.
