The cyclonic storm lay centred over the Bay of Bengal, about 590 km south east of Paradip, said an IMD release.
"The system is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast on Tuesday," said the release.
Under its impact, rain and thundershower may occur in many districts of coastal Odisha and some areas in the interior region.
The Bhubaneswar Met centre has issued Distant Warning Signal Number Two (DW-II) at Paradip and Gopalpur ports.
It advised fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
