Srinagar, May 16 (IANS) Activists of women's separatist group 'Dukhtaran-e-Milat' (Daughters of Faith) on Tuesday protested against the detention of the group's chief, Asiya Andrabi, under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, dozens of women activists gathered at the Press Enclave in Srinagar to protest the detention of Asiya Andrabi and her associate, Fahmeeda Sofi.
Authorities slapped PSA on Asiya and Fahmeeda on Monday. Sources said the two were being shifted to a jail in Jammu.
Under the Act, the authorities can detain a person for a period of two years without any judicial intervention.
Anybody detained under the PSA can only file a petition before the state High Court seeking quashing of the detention order.
