Turkey tests first home-made long-range missile

Ankara, May 11 (IANS) Turkey on Thursday tested its first home-made long-range missile in its northern region, the country's Defence Minister said.

Speaking to A Haber news channel at an ongoing International Defence Industry Fair in Istanbul, Fikri Isik announced that Turkey's first national missile called Bora was successfully tested in the northern city of Sinop.

The minister noted that the missile, with a range of 280 kilometres, was fired from Sinop towards the Black Sea.

"We have gained a lot of confidence to do even better," he said. "We will continue to work to achieve more."

Bora was developed by Turkish defence company Roketsan by adopting Chinese technology, experts were previously quoted as saying in press reports.

The missile has a payload of 450 kg and an accuracy of 50 metres, according to the manufacturer.
