Kolkata Police install gadgets to curb overspeeding

Kolkata, April 7 (IANS) In an attempt to check reckless driving, Kolkata Police installed latest gadgets at various points in the city during the Road Safety week that concluded on Friday.

"Kolkata traffic police installed automatic cameras and speed monitors at 25 crucial road junctures in accident-prone areas like 'Maa Flyover' at Park Circus, AJC Bose Road flyover and Tollygunge here," Additional Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal said here.

According to the police officer, the cameras will take shots of registration number plates of overspeeding vehicles and send them to the traffic control room at Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar.

"The speed monitors will display the speed limit on specific roads and notify if any vehicle is overspeeding," the officer said.

The Kolkata Police conducted several public awareness events, including bike rallies, and released a documentary titled '2017 accident film' during the Road Safety Week.
