CPI-M leader questions government on regional imbalances

New Delhi, March 29 (IANS) CPI-M leader Mohammed Salim on Wednesday sought to know the steps the government has taken to address regional imbalances through the Goods and Services (GST) bill.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader also sought to know from the government "if the underdeveloped regions are a part of the 'New India' that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been advocating".

"Already, agriculture in our country is suffering. Our polices have been industry-centric, corporate-centric but never agriculture-centric," said Salim during a discussion on the GST bill in the Lok Sabha.

"We want to know whether our underdeveloped regions are a part of the 'New India' that our Prime Minister has been talking about.

"If they are part of this 'New India' then what steps are being taken to address the regional imbalance and to address the issues of backward regions through GST," he added.
