Hailstorm spells crop damage, losses for Haryana farmers


Gurugram, March 10 (IANS) Hailstorm hit south Haryana on Friday, causing huge losses to farmers in the area.

A sharp and short spell of rain, accompanied by pellet-sized hailstones, hit a part of south Haryana on Friday evening, a Meteorological Department official said.

Lakhpat Singh, a resident of Rewari district, told IANS that the unexpected spell of showers and thunderstorm has caused big losses to Rabi crops.

Resident of Mundhaliya village near Rewari district, Santosh Yadav said that the unexpected rain and thundershower ahead of Holi has caused losses to farmers.

The locals have urged the government to look into the crop damage and provide all possible help to the effected farmers.

The Meteorological Department has forecast that such showers could take place in the coming days as well.

Gurugram also experienced light showers towards Friday evening.
