CAG exposes BJP’s pathetic performance in MCD running: AAP

New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) The CAG report on municipal corporations' performance, tabled in the Delhi assembly on Friday, has exposed the BJP's poor performance in running the three municipal bodies, the AAP said.

Aam Aadmi Party's Delhi convener Dilip Pandey said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India report on (East, North and South) MCDs validated the AAP claim that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has turned the MCDs into "Malaria-Chikunguniya-Dengue (MCD)".

The AAP has alleged that the BJP and the Congress had together made the municipal corporations a hub of corruption and turned the national capital into a garbage bin, a claim that has found resonance in the CAG's report.

"The CAG has now exposed the BJP's pathetic performance in running the MCDs. The CAG observed that the municipal bodies were wholly unprepared to deal with mosquito-related diseases that spread in Delhi last year," Pandey said.

He added that the report stated that despite there being no lack of funds, no concrete steps were taken by the civic bodies to tackle outbreak of various diseases.

"No response teams were set up, and the surveillance team was a failure. No steps were taken to combat the dengue menace. Fogging was also not undertaken on time."

"Rs 43.65 crore were spent on effort to deal with mosquito menace, but the techniques and chemicals used were inappropriate. Chemicals that adversely affect the health of people were purposefully chosen by the MCDs," Pandey said citing the CAG report.

"Over Rs 109 crore were spent on identifying mosqito breeding spots in people's houses, but there wasn't any mechanism to supervise or assess the impact of this expenditure," Pandey said citing the report.

Pandey said the CAG report has throroughly exposed the failures and misgovernance of the BJP-run MCDs.

"It has shown how the BJP played with the lives of the citizens of Delhi. The report has made it clear that the Congress and the BJP cannot be allowed to continue in the MCDs," Pandey added.

Municipal elections in Delhi are due in April.
