New Delhi, March 7 (IANS) In a policy aimed at empowering women, the Indian Railways has given 33 per cent sub quota to them in each category of minor catering units at all category of stations, an official statement said on Tuesday.
"Under this policy, a sub quota of 33 per cent for women in allotment of each of the reserved catering units is being introduced on Indian Railways in order to extend economic empowerment for women. It is also in compliance with the announcement made in Railway Budget 2016-17," the statement said.
"The 33 per cent sub quota reservation for women in each category shall ensure allotment of minimum 8 per cent stalls to women at A1, A, B and C category stations and minimum 17 per cent at D, E and F category stations," it said.
There are approximately 8,000 minor catering units over Indian Railways, it said, adding that Railways would ensure that women participation does not fall below a specific level.
