File MAG reports on Panama papers case in four weeks: SC

New Delhi, March 7 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed for submission in a sealed cover all six reports of the Multi-Agency Group (MAG) set up by the government to investigate persons with overseas accounts whose names surfaced in the Panama Papers leaks.

A bench of Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice M.M. Shantanagoudar asked the central government to file the reports within four weeks.

The court's direction came after Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, appearing for the Centre, said that the MAG had completed the sixth report of its ongoing probe and the government is prepared to place all reports before the court.

Earlier, the court was told that MAG has already submitted five reports to the court-appointed Special Investigation Team, headed by former apex court judge, Justice M.B. Shah, probing the black money stashed abroad.

The MAG consists of officers of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, including its Member Investigation, the Reserve Bank of India, the Enforcement Directorate and the Financial Intelligence Unit.

A lawyer had filed a PIL for a probe against those named in the Panama Papers case.
