Baijal pitches for separate company to manage Delhi’s biodiversity parks

New Delhi, Feb 4 (IANS) Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday ordered the setting up of a separate company under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to manage Delhi's biodiversity parks in a focused and sustained manner.

Baijal's direction came after he visited the Yamuna Biodiversity Park, a green initiative of the DDA.

He said both the Yamuna and the Aravalli Biodiversity Parks have been providing ecological services to Delhi and need to be preserved.

"Yamuna Biodiversity Park is a unique urban landscape, contributing towards preservation of our natural heritage including vanishing flora and fauna," Baijal said.

"There is an urgent need to revive the lost eco-systems of our pristine River Yamuna," he added.

The Lt. Governor was accompanied by his wife Mala Baijal, DDA Vice Chairman Udai Pratap Singh and environmentalist C.R. Babu.
