New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS) A 17-year-old girl died after being hit by a tractor while going to school on Tuesday morning here, police said.
According to police, the girl, identified as Khushboo, was a student of Class 12 in a nearby senior secondary school. She died on the spot. The accident took place at around 7 a.m. in Bhalswa Dairy in North Delhi.
An angry mob burnt the tractor.
The driver of the tractor managed to escape from the spot, a senior police officer said.
"Khushboo stayed in Swaroop Nagar area. When she reached an intersection in Bhalswa Dairy area, a tractor carrying bricks crushed her. The driver of the tractor did not apply brakes on time," the officer said.
The commercial use of tractor is illegal in Delhi. The roads in the area where the accident took place have no speed breakers.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and police are investigating the case to arrest the accused driver, he said.
