Electric wire thieves held in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Jan 11 (IANS) Ghaziabad police on Wednesday, arrested electric wire thieves and recovered stolen items worth over Rs 30 lakh from their possession.

Talking to reporters, City Superintendent of Police Salman Taj Patil said: "On the tip-off from an informer, the Kavi Nagar police and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Ghaziabad police nabbed the thieves from Hapur crossing."

During interrogation, they confessed to their crimes. Police recovered two bundles of wire, transformer parts, two country-made pistols, two knives, tools to cut wire, cord and a mini truck.

"Since electric wire theft is an anti-national act, we are recommending to book them under National Security Act (NSA), Gangster Act in addition to relevant sections of the IPC," Patil said.

During verification, a dozen criminal cases were found registered against them in different police stations of their home towns Meerut, Baghpat and Ghaziabad.
