Delhi HC seeks police report on illegal constructions in Sainik Farms

New Delhi, Sep 7 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police of South Delhi to visit the Sainik Farms area and submit a report on the alleged ongoing illegal constructions there.

A division bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Ashutosh Kumar also hinted at a CBI inquiry against municipal or police officials under whose watch rampant unauthorised constructions came up in the Sainik Farms area.

The bench said it will take a decision on the Central Bureau of Investigation probe on the next date of hearing on September 21 after perusing the report on illegal constructions to be submitted by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).

During a brief hearing of the case, SDMC counsel said no construction is going on within the 20 gates of the Sainik Farms.

However, a residents welfare association of the south Delhi colony alleged that unauthorised constructions were going on even at present.

In response, the court directed the DCP (South) to visit the area and submit a report.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by a non-governmental organisation on the illegal constructions in the area.

There is a blanket ban on any construction in the Sainik Farms area since 2001, following a Delhi High Court order.

Even the entry of construction material in the area is banned, which was supposed to be checked by the SDMC and south Delhi Police.
