"The workers are on strike since yesterday in protest against the anti-worker policies of their employers and also to bring the issue to the notice of the state government," S. Kannan, President of Centre of Indian Trade Unions-Kanchipuram unit, told IANS on Friday.
The workers on hunger strike belonged to five different companies, including an auto-component supplier to an American car maker, a semi-conductor company, a furniture maker and others.
Kannan said around 3,000 faxes highlighting the issue will be send to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
He said good number of the workers participating in the hunger strike are from Comstar Automotive Technologies.
