Chit fund scam accused MP released on parole, visits mother

Kolkata, June 9 (IANS) Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh, in jail as an undertrial in the Saradha chit fund scam, was on Thursday released on a two-hour parole to enable him visit his ailing mother at a nursing home here.

The journalist turned politician, who is a suspended Trinamool Congress member of the upper house pf parliament, was taken to the nursing home in central Kolkata amidst tight security to spend time with his cancer-afflicted mother.

Ghosh was granted parole by Chief Judicial Magistrate Arabindra Mitra on humanitarian grounds.

Ghosh - the group CEO of Saradha Media - was arrested on November 23, 2013, for his alleged involvement in the multi-billion rupee scandal.
