Mumbai, May 2 (IANS) Bengali film superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, who has been in showbiz for over three decades, plans to direct a Hindi film by next year. It will be a period drama.

"Yes, I will surely love to direct a Hindi film in 2016 to 2017, and will be introducing myself as a director. It will not be a remake... It's a film which I have done long back. It's adapted from a novel basically," Prosenjit told IANS.

"I can't reveal much right now but it's a big commercial film. It was made long back, but it was not made the way I wanted it to be. It's a historical film... It will be a period drama and I need big stars for it and right budget," he added.

Prosenjit plans to cast actors from the Bengali film industry as well as from other parts of the country for his directorial venture.

"I have my cinema knowledge, of course, and as you know, Bengal has a huge literature base and that's our strength. I would love to say that some of the talents from my region and from the rest of the country will be seen in my film," he said.

Prosenjit, known for his performances in Rituparno Ghosh's "Chokher Bali" and "Dosar", cut his teeth in 1968 as a child artist with director Jagannath Chatterjee's "Chhotto Jignasha", in which his father Biswajeet played the lead.

Later in 1983, he returned as a full-fledged actor with Duti Pata and has remained on top of the Bengali film industry ever since.
