Sisodia suspends VAT officer for corruption

New Delhi, April 2 (IANS) Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday ordered suspension of a senior official of the Value Added Tax (VAT) department on corruption charges, an official said.

The action was taken after Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, received a complaint from a trader that the officer was demanding bribe from him.

"As per the complaint, an officer posted in the VAT department was demanding Rs. 20 lakh from a trader after the officer carried out a raid at his office and found some financial irregularities," the official told IANS.

"The trader then approached the government and filed a complaint against the VAT officer. Following the complaint, Sisodia suspended the officer,” the official said.
